I can’t explain why, but this article that I wrote a few years ago and published on Helium.com is one of my favorite pieces of writing. I think part of it has to do with the fact that it might be able to help someone who is going through a similar situation to what I went through.
A friend of mine recently posted as her status what I now consider my mantra. I don’t know where she found it, but a few days later, someone else posted it in a meme. So I know it was meant for me to see and to embrace. Here it is:
I cannot get enough of this expression and I have truly taken it to heart over the past week. I am trying to live by it, and in doing so, I have come across a few friends who actually needed encouragement and I was able to give it. It’s not going to cure my depression, of course, but it takes away some of the guilt I feel for having depression (and those of you who suffer like I do know what I mean about the guilt).
So, back to the article… this is my encouragement to fellow NICU moms and dads. It will make your lives a little easier, if not actually easy.
And maybe one day soon I will have the time and the clarity of mind to sit down and tell you all about how I know these things.
